What this tool does
Add Page Numbers puts a number on every page of your PDF. You choose how it reads, where it sits, what number it starts from, and whether the first page is left alone.
How it works
Your document is read into memory on your own device. The numbering is a setting, not an edit, so it is worked out fresh at the moment you download. That is the reason it stays correct: delete two pages after adding the numbers and the remaining pages renumber themselves, rather than leaving you with a document that jumps from 3 to 6.

- Leave the cover unnumbered, and the total counts only the pages that carry a number
Your files stay on your device
This tool is marked in your browser. The document is never uploaded, so there is no queue, no waiting and no daily allowance. Load the page, disconnect from the internet, and it still works.
Questions
If I skip the cover, does the total still count it?
No. A four-page document with an unnumbered cover reads 1 / 3 on the second page, not 1 / 4. The total counts the pages that are actually numbered.
What if I add or remove pages afterwards?
The numbers are recalculated when you download, so they always match the document you end up with.
Can I start at a number other than 1?
Yes. Set the starting number, which is what you want when the document continues from another one.
Will the numbers overlap my content?
They sit in the page margin. If your content runs into the margin, move the numbers to another corner.
